👥 Who We Help
The Technical Component / Professional Component billing model is an established Medicare and insurance billing method that allows pathology services to be billed separately — creating new revenue streams and significant cost savings.
The Technical Component covers the physical preparation and processing of biopsy specimens. This includes histological processing, staining, slide preparation, and the provision of equipment and laboratory staff. The TC is billed by the pathology laboratory and typically carries modifier -TC on the CPT code.
The Professional Component is the physician work — the expert diagnostic interpretation of the prepared slides by a licensed, board-certified pathologist. The PC is billed separately, typically with modifier -26, and is the focus of the ENCounter's software platform.
